Better be a digital girl

Today we surprised Neelie Kroes and het kabinet with a special Coderdojo workshop in Leuven. We went to it with a hole Coderdojo team and learned Neelie Kroes and her team to code with Scratch and MakeyMakey.  It was a fantastic day! Neelie Kroes is the Vice President of the European Commission. She is in charge of the digital agenda of the EU.

Today I participated to the STEM-event in Brussels. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and wants to make young people aware of the many perspectives that have technical and scientific  jobs to offer. A lot of ministers were present at the STEM event: Ministers Kris Peeters, Pascal Smet, Ingrid Lieten en Philippe Muyters With Pascal Smet (Minister of Flemish Education) Above all be cool ! (with Juno and Young ICT lady of the year 2014 Wendy Vermoesen) For the event a STEM promo film was launches. For the film I went with Digital Girl 2013 Lune Van Ewijk to Kris Peeters and we learned him the basics of code. You can see it in the film on You Tube: STEM_event_making a social robot

Today I followed a technique workshop  during " day of science" at the Thomas More university college campus De Nayer. We learned the basics of soldering and electronics. We learned to program LED lights and write our name on a display.

In November 2013 we participated we a Coderdojo Belgium team to the First Lego League award in Kortrijk. We had a lot of fun to prepare the contest with our team. We also had the Flemish youth TV channel 'Ketnet' who came to visit us during the preparation. We won two awards with our designed robot - the best Robot Performance Award and the Robot Design Award.  

On september 14th, I was one of the six experienced CoderDojo kids (of which 4 were girls!) who helped and explained to CxO's how to code and … we thoroughly enjoyed the Expert status. It was FUN! See more on the ADM website: ADM CxO Coderdojo

In 2012 I followed a robot class. I learned to program Lego Mindstorms. I liked to program a robot and have fun with it.
